Remembering our roots

Well as some of you may know, I am a quarter Puerto Rican. So that makes Hannah about an eighth. Well it is still something we have told her she is and she will one day truly understand what that means. But she tells people she is Puerto Rican, so as it happens, her school is having a month where they learn about other cultures and countries, and asked if I would come in and share on Puerto Rico since I am Puerto Rican. I laughed at first, wondering how they knew my background..forgetting Hannah tells people this, and said yes with the understanding that I didn't know much. So in the past week I have had fun looking up things about Puerto Rico since as most of you know, I was not raised with any of the Puerto Rican customs, heck Hannah knows more spanish than I do!!(great thing about having bilingual teachers!) Hannah has had fun looking up things with me and learning that it is an island and what that means, and her favorite part was the neat frog that is a mascot for Puerto Rico.. the Coqui. I shared with her class just a few things like the frog and its beautiful rain forests, which was funny given it was raining outside at the time I shared, and one kid said like here!!! Not quite!! I brought in a real plantain and a banana to compare with the kids and they tried plantain chips, which really just taste like potato chips! It was a fun morning and hit home that we should not forget our roots, I know Hannah learned a little today and one day we will take a family vacation there!!!

Friends in....high places!!

Our good friends and neighbors just opened their restaurant a few minutes from our house. It is a Japanese restaurant with really good food. We have already been twice!! I took a few pics from Friday night, which was the grand opening to the public. Wed. was the family and friends food sampling. Hannah tried Miso soup for the first time and loved tofu!!! Never would of thought!! She had edamame and bacon wrapped tomatoes on a skewer!! It was great food with good friends, what better could you ask for!

Hannah trying to use chopsticks!! She actually got some rice, due to it sticking to them more than anything!

The Art of Pizza Making!

Well after going to Trader Joes for a few things we decided that it would be fun to make a pizza. Hannah loves to make things and this was one we hadn't made yet! So we got our dough from Trader Joes and got the rest of the ingredients from Albertson's. Hannah requested bacon and olives...she is a huge bacon girl lately, every time she gets a cheeseburger from somewhere it has to have bacon!!! We also got some pepperoni, pork sausage and pineapple. It was a lot of fun to make...Hannah would put some on the pizza and then some in her mouth, good thing we bought plenty!!! It was a lot of fun and tasty too!!!
